Sydney Airport – Fixed Fare Trial
From 3 November 2025, all trips from a taxi rank at Sydney Airport to the Sydney CBD trial area will cost $60 for a standard taxi and a wheelchair accessible taxi or $80 for a requested maxi taxi.
This trial, which will run for 18 months, is aimed at providing price clarity and certainty for taxi passengers and at reducing taxi fare-related offences (overcharging and fare refusals).
Applicable trips
A one-way taxi trip from a Sydney Airport taxi rank (T1 International and T2/T3 Domestic) to the Sydney CBD trial area (see map below). Note: The trial applies to single, unbroken journeys only.
Fixed fares
• $60 for a standard taxi including a wheelchair accessible taxi service
• $80 for a maxi-taxi if there are five or more passengers or if the maxi-taxi is requested (except when carrying a person who uses a wheelchair).
• The fixed fare includes all taxes, fees, levies and road tolls.
• The only charges that can be added are:
1. If applicable, the payment merchant’s credit card or other non-cash payment surcharge – maximum of 5% of the total fare.
2. If applicable, a cleaning fee (no more than $120).
Drivers must
• Charge the fixed fare for applicable trips
• Use the meter to charge the fixed fare and display the fare on the meter during the trip. It’s a fare-related offence if the fixed fare is not displayed on the meter.
Fixed Fare Trial area
The Sydney CBD trial area is the area within the City of Sydney:
• bounded by the Harbour from Murray Street, Pyrmont Bay, in the West
• the Royal Botanic Gardens in the North and East
• Lincoln Crescent, Cowper Wharf Roadway, Sir John Young Crescent, Riley Street, William Street, College Street, Wentworth Avenue, Elizabeth Street, Chalmers Street, Devonshire Street Tunnel, Lee Street, Regent Street, Harris Street, Allen Street and Murray Street in the west
• returning to the waterfront at Pyrmont Bay
• includes both sides of the named roads which form the boundary of the area.

Metro taxi fare rates
Taxi fares are split into 3 separate rates which are: Day Rate (9am-5pm), Overnight Rate (5pm-9am) and Peak Rate (10pm-4am Friday & Saturday). Therefore, a trip between the exact 2 places using the exact same route can vary in cost.
A taxi fare can also comprise of several other charges known as Extras. These charges can include Tolls, Service Fees, Booking Fee, Airport Fee, etc.
Sydney Freeway / Highway Tolls
A taxi fare may also include a charge for the use of Toll Roads such as Citylink and/or Eastlink. This is a charge in addition to the Metered Fare. For information on the current Toll Road charges, please check with the local toll provider.
Surcharge For Use of Eftpos Facility
A service fee is applicable to all taxi fares paid using credit/debit cards and other non-cash payments. This fee is charged by the Eftpos payment provider and is not included in the Metered fare. Other Fees
Other charges that are applicable can include an Airport Fee, Booking Fee, Service Fee etc.
